Look Ma, No Maximums! (And Other Crazy Ideas for Alternative Pay Structures)
Most of us have used pay structures for a long time in our base pay plans. In this presentation, we will step back and look at the traditional approaches to designing pay structures to see why structures are designed the way they are…and we’ll examine some alternative approaches to modify pay structures to meet internal and external drivers. The design considerations we will look at include: Pay Policy Lines, Range Spread, Overlap, Progression, Minimums/Midpoints/Maximums, and Number of Structures.
We will also present a real life case study on the redesign of a Pay Structure to address internal equity issues. The case study looked at a range of options, including eliminating range maximums. The end result is a unique asymmetrical pay structure that has been successfully implemented.
